Building regulations in Thailand?

Postby stattointhailand » January 8, 2010, 1:40 pm

Is there such a thing as building regulations in Thailand?
Do you have to get any permission before building an extension to your house or an outbuilding, or is it just a case of "it's your land so you can do as you please".

I believe that if you are under Udon municipality, the answer is 'yes'. If you are building in a village like I am, the answer is 'no'; but, it is polite to inform the village chief.

Don't expect zoning laws either.

A Thai acquaintance in a nearby amphur finished his house only to watch a pig slaughterhouse go up in an adjacent plot. He was not amused with the deafening squealing all day and into the night. :(
