Postby Ray.Charles » June 29, 2009, 2:16 am

Trying to locate one for me. Priorities:
1. Good equipments, anyone got CYBEX?
2. On the west side.
3. Air-conditioned.
Thanks.

Ray,
From the Udon Map Activities page, not a lot but a starting place
"Gyms
The best gym with all modern facilities can be found at the Ban Chaing hotel (Map I11) there you will find a fully equipped gym with aerobics area exercise machines and weights, below is a spa with sauna. The Napali and Charoensri Grand hotels also have gyms. Private gyms can be found at the Englishman's Retreat (Map Ref G1) and BB Resort (Map Ref G1)."

Try the Physical Education College, it's on the ring road near Phracha Raksa rd intersection (grid C-12 on the map). Here's a recent review:

I have found Muay Thai Fitness to be very good. Had been a member at Big Gym City, but I could not achieve full range of motion in most of the exercises, since the machines were too small.

Went to Muay Thai Fitness and have been very pleased with the machines, free weights, cardio equipment, pool and track. Locker rooms are functional and adequate, and the annual membership fee is very good, too.

It's in the location of the Physical Education College (grid C-12 on the map). Same location as pointed out by papaguido.

Hi,
Gym opened last year on the ring road, if coming from Airport turn left on to ring road, turn left at first traffic lights, the only single carriageway, on the ring road, that passes the Electricity power station and about four to five K down the road it's on the left hand side. It is just before the first small cross roads with flashing overhead yellow lights. It is not directly on main road but 30 metres back. Sorry about being vague but missus gone out with car and map. I believe they have all you want.
Cheers Doug.

Sounds like Big City gym. Excellent gym for weight training, but a lack of or very limited cardio equipment. For a full balance workout Muay Thai Fitness can't be beat (running track, tennis courts & swimming pool).

Last year, I didn't find much of a selection of supplements. Some of the gyms might have some protein, but selection will probably be small and expensive. I stayed in Udon for three months and brought my own supply from the U.S. If you don't want to haul your own stuff from you home country, you could buy in Bangkok before going to Udon.

Are you still looking?

Seen some at Super Sports, sports dept on 1st floor of Robinsons. It wasn't priced so can tell you how much. Also, seen same brand else where, at a pharmacy I think and probably less expensive than Super Sports.

A follow up to my last post. The same product available at Robinsons can be found at Pharmacy on Mak keng Rd across the street from the morning market, near the corner away from Phosi rd. Although I didn't price it I'm sure it will be much less than Robinsons. If you go there by late morning or noon, there's an English speaking pharmacist that with you out.

Thanks papaguido, I'll check out both places and the prices. I did manage to find some in the pharmacy in carrefort - but twice the price as the UK. I think health supplements are still only a thing for the wealthy in Thailand so they price it accordingly.

OT,

If you go to the Pharmacy, half way into the store on your left on the top shelf you find 3 or 4 containers of the supplements. Also a reminder to check the expiration date.

Old Timer,

If you are looking for WPC 80%..... I sell it!

It has no flavour added and it is sourced from the US. I advise to mix with Lactosoy etc to make the taste more acceptable.

For a 1 kg bag it will cost you 825 baht, plus postage. From my research, most pharmacies are charging around 1300 ~ 1500 baht for a flavoured powder which weighs 750 grams.

Give me a call on: 08 106 144 33
